Chance Conversations with... God?

"Behold I stand at the door and knock; if any one hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him, and will dine with him, and he with Me." -Revelation 3:20

Have you ever said something to someone and their response was something like; "You're the second person to say that to me. God (or something) must be trying to tell me something."

Now I don't want to discount the possibility that God really may try to be communicating a much needed idea to someone through others. It could happen. But my experience has shown that to communicate a message God doesn't really need to rely on chance conversations. Maybe things like that happen on television or in the movies, but in practical application we could really get off on some strange tangents looking for truth in incidental occurances.

We've been had by a superstitious culture that, in stumbling around to find meaning, will grasp at virtually any circumstance and build a basis of faith upon it, no matter how far fetched or coincidental that basis may be. Did you ever read a fortune cookie that probably was just as good advice for the person next to you as for you?

Broadcaster Gary Owens once poked fun at the astrological world by making up a series of humorous forcasts that pointed out that very thing. He'd say things like "Scorpios, be careful! Wednesday is a very bad day to be hit by a truck." Is there a good day for that?

Listen. God has said all He needs to say in His Word. Get to know it! If we're basing our perceptions of truth on something other than that we're going to be sorely disappointed in life.

Is your perception of life based on a solid truth, or a haphazard collection of coincidences? Earnestly desire to find the real truth to existence. It's not as elusive as our culture would have us believe. In fact, it's knocking at our door.
